I have no trouble shaking this thing down unlike the old mercury ones that seemed to take much longer. However, it does seem to take longer to get the accurate reading. We tested a few times when we first got it, and the longer we waited (3-4 minutes) the better it got. I would not recommend any shorter than 3 minutes...
